The alumni garden will be a natural sanctuary for ECHHS community members.
Situated behind the school, the area slated to be used for the alumni garden was once a pollinator garden with flowers and plaques outlining the environmental importance of pollinators. Today, the land is completely overwhelmed with weeds. Damaged plaques remain as the last signs of the old garden. Nearby, an apiary is in need of some care.
The new garden will be dedicated to all ECHHS alumni, with plaques to commemorate significant donors to the project. The new space will fully realize the educational motif of the pollinator garden, with signs detailing the environmental significance of plants and the role of pollinators within the ecosystem. A vegetable garden will serve as a living classroom for students to learn important principles in growing and maintaining plants. Harvested vegetables will be provided to East cooking classes. An abundance of benches and hammocks will make the space perfect for a class visit or for students to read and hang out after school. Stone walkways and beds will solidify the permanence of the garden.
